Senior Alyssa Layton has started taking on various video projects this year, including a Public Service Announcement competition for Future Business Leaders of America (she has advanced to the State Leadership Conference with partner , senior Sammi Woodward, for that project).
Alyssa's most recent achievement comes from her entry into the White House Student Film Festival. The President's goal
"Every day in classrooms and communities throughout our country, young people are making an impact in the lives of others through service and giving back. Volunteering takes so many different forms in our country and is one of the most important experiences that you can have. Service to others and giving back can offer purpose and perspective. You may find that making a difference in your community or in someone else’s life is an experience that can make a difference in your own life. President Obama has said that service gave him a compass, a center, and a sense of direction of how he wanted to live his own life.
We’re looking for videos that highlight the impact of service and giving back."
The contest just happened to take place at the same time the girls basketball team was going to be hosting their Autism Awareness Night. With Alyssa

To accompany her video work, Alyssa Layton has taken the reigns in starting the Blue Jay News Network (BJNN), in which students produce the daily video announcements, as well as relevant news. Alyssa has worked during Connect and Apply Time to create the intro and outro splash screens for the episodes, and recruited classmate Gwen Uselman to accompany her as the first anchors of the news show.
