First Grade Students Are Learning About the Engineering Process
We just finished our first Engineering Process and wanted to share it with everyone! We have been learning about the Engineering Process and what engineers do. Students learned to plan like an engineer. In order to plan like an engineer, they had to ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve their plans while working with peers. The students were given the problem, "What toys can you use to make the tallest tower?" Students used a variety of toys, such as dominoes, Legos, and shape blocks to build towers. Afterwards, we reflected on which toys worked the best to build the tallest towers. We also reflected on what it was like to work as a team. The students had a great time being engineers, while practice working together with peers.
