Argentinian Student Visits JC World Cultures Classes

On Friday, January 9th the middle and high school Spanish and world cultures classes were visited by a college student from Argentina, Iñaki Escauriza. Iñaki was here visiting Miss Hill. In 2012, Miss Hill spent 2 1/2 months in Rosario, Argentina 6 weeks of that time she lived in Iñaki's house with him and his family. She visited his school (at the time he was a high school student) to see what schools in Argentina were like, she also lived with 3 other families including a language arts teacher.

Iñaki was very excited to come and share his culture with the students here at Johnson Creek. The students asked him about being young in Argentina. Before break, in Spanish 1 class students watched the movie "Evita" about Eva Peron, first lady of Argentina in the 1950s. One student even asked Iñaki about the influence of Eva and Juan Peron in Argentina and how it has shaped Argentina today. This visit was exciting for the handful of students planning to travel to Argentina with Spanish class in the summer of 2016. The Spanish IV/V was very excited to put their Spanish to use and really enjoyed chatting with Iñaki.

The 6th graders have been doing a unit on dance in their World Culture class, Iñaki was able to teach them how to dance.
