Student's in Mrs. Gross's Art classes and Mrs. Miner's Design class had an opportunity today to visit various locations in Milwaukee.
The students started off by visiting the
Art Institute of Milwaukee where they toured the campus and learned about post secondary education opportunities in the fields of design, multimedia, fashion, CAD, and culinary arts. The students had the opportunity to see first hand the classrooms and equipment that the students at Ai use on a daily basis.
Following the Art Institute, students headed over to the "Milwaukee Public Market" for lunch. Here students had an opportunity to sample various foods and take a break from the walking. A few students even did an onsite interview for this week's "Blue Jay Update" which will be live tomorrow.
We planned on walking from the market to the Milwaukee School of Engineering, but the weather changed our plans. This gave us an opportunity to drop in on the
Milwaukee Art Museum, which coincidentally has free admission the first Thursday of each month. The students had a great time here exploring the architecture of the building as well as the many exhibits.
Following the museum, we traveled over to the Milwaukee School of Engineering to visit the
Grohmann Museum. This facility had a very impressive collection of paintings and bronze sculptures and should be on everyone's list to visit in the summer when the upper garden is open. One of the most unique paintings at the museum is actually one that is not on public display. We were taken in to Mr. Grohmann's office where he has a painting that was done by a trained elephant, from when he traveled to Thailand. The video of the image being painted can be seen below.
