5th Graders Participate in STEP Program

Fifth graders at Johnson Creek Elementary School have once again participated in the STEP (Student Tools for Emergency Planning) Program. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for various emergencies, including: tornadoes, flooding and storms; and encourages them to share the information with their families and to develop their own family emergency plan. Throughout the program, students discuss emergency and disaster situations and what actions are appropriate for each. The students are then encouraged to take what they have learned and share/inform their families. 

The program is supported by AT&T, Walgreens, and Wisconsin Emergency Management. Students in the fifth grade were sent home with family emergency planning kits. The kits included a flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, emergency blanket, and a backpack. On April 29th representatives from the Wisconsin Emergency Management, AT&T, and Representative Kleefisch will give a presentation along with the fifth grade classes to the entire school on how important it is to prepare and discuss emergency situations. The fifth grade classes are grateful to have been able to once again participate in this wonderful program.
