History Meets Broadway

On February 6th the Spanish Club was able to enjoy an evening of Broadway and History as they attended the Tony Award Winning Musical “Evita” at the Uihelin Hall in Milwaukee, where Johnson Creek High School scrolled across the Marquee welcoming our group. “Evita” based on the true life of the first lady of Argentina Eva Duarte De Perón. As a young girl Eva was the daughter of a mistress of a middle class man and was shunned at her father’s own funeral. She swore to herself that no one would ever treat her with such indignity again. As she grew older she would use her relationships to better her in life until she met Colonel Juan Perón and he needed her just as much as she needed him. Together they rose to power and Colonel Perón became President Perón, and Eva Perón became a symbol of hope for the lower class in Argentina. Sadly, Eva died at the young age of 33, but the impact of her story and her leadership live on today not only in Argentina, but in the world. The students enjoyed the show immensely and had nothing but great things to say about the production. Many of the students and staff alike that attended the show became very inquisitive and gained a thirst for knowledge about this important part of history. It was a great experience for all that attended and we look forward to other excursions like this one.
