Johnson Creek High School and Watertown High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members traveled together on Saturday, February 1 to attend the Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) at Chilton High School. While at the conference members attended an opening session, then competed in their events, and attended workshops. FBLA has over sixty events for members to choose from. Students can take a written test on economics or give a presentation on Business Ethics. Students prepare for this day by studying and taking practice exams.
Students who place in the top 3 of each event earn the right to compete at State Leadership Conference. This year’s State Leadership Conference is being held in Appleton, Wisconsin on April 7 & 8. This year’s theme is 'Excellence in Action'.
Johnson Creek students who competed in the RLC include: Noah Argus, Business Math; Christian Avalos, Business Procedures; Elena Barron and Aaron Erdmann, Desktop Publishing (8th place winners in the team event); Aubrey Doherty, Agribusiness; Elyssa Doherty, Business Math; Alyssa Layton and Sammi Woodward, Business Ethics (6th place winner in the team event); and Noah Stevenson, Personal Finance.
Watertown students who traveled to Chilton for their competitions were Lexi Gilmore, Public Speaking II; Colleen Hann, Accounting; and Sarah Wagner, Job Interview (7th place winner). Events that were completed online before the conference were done by the team of Brett Caine and Hanah Nachtigall, Sport & Entertainment Management; the team of Ashley Hendricks, Monica Miller, and Leah Uecker, Hospitality Management; and Kristin Miller, Electronic Portfolio (4th place winner).
The advisers are very proud of these students for the time and effort they put into preparing for their events and venturing out on a cold and snowy Saturday. Their actions in preparation and willingness to dedicate a full Saturday of their time is a true testimony of their leadership ability.
Students interested in joining FBLA should contact their school's adviser:
Johnson Creek: Mr. Perucco or Mr. Benisch
Watertown: Mrs. Miller
