Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits. Coincidentally, Pi Day also falls on Albert Einstein's Birthday.
To celebrate Pi Day, students at Johnson Creek Elementary had special math lessons, videos, and activities explaining the concept of Pi. One of those activities consisted of students creating a long paper chain, with each link representing a number of Pi. Each class had their own colored link and they assembled the entire link in order. One student also demonstrated his knowledge of Pi, trying to show that he has memorized the first 25 decimal places. Finally, what would Pi Day be without getting to eat some fresh baked pie?
