Summer School Students Learn About Gardening

Summer school students at Johnson Creek Elementary School have been working hard to prepare a new school garden area in the courtyard. Students from grades kindergarten through fifth grade, under the direction of JCE teachers Lyndsay Scheibel and Stacy Miller,  have planted a 12x4 raised bed with various vegetables. Students have been learning about how plants grow, the importance of bees, and how to tend and care for the garden.

This garden was made possible by:
The Johnson Creek Education Foundation - money grant
High school teacher Ray Lauersdorf - construction of the raised garden bed
Crossroads Church of Johnson Creek - donation of tools and gloves

In the upcoming school year, a garden club will be created with students of all ages to plant and maintain the garden bed.
