Kwik Trip Helps JC Middle School Students Bring Clean Water to Refugee Camps

Students at Johnson Creek Middle School were studying the importance of fresh water. They learned about the drought in California, flooding, and microorganisms that cause illnesses. Everyone needs uncontaminated water to survive. After learning about how disease spreads in refugee camps because everyone comes to the same water supply, the kids researched and found a new invention that will purify about 4,000 liters of contaminated water and decided they wanted to raise money to buy one to send to the Red Cross. Students ran an aluminum can drive and applied for a Neighbors to Neighbors grant through the Johnson Creek Kwik Trip. Thanks to a $100 donation from Kwik Trip and aluminium can donations, students raised enough money to purchase one “Life Saver” water bottle. The special water bottle will purify enough water for a family of four for about one year without having to walk to the nearest crowded water supply.
