On November 19th, Fort Health Care organized a healthy pep rally for elementary students. Students had the opportunity to visit various stations to learn about different topics.
These stations included:
My Plate (ChooseMyPlate.gov):
Students learned about eating healthy and choosing alternative foods. Students learned about whole grain foods, proteins, and low-fat milk options.
Stress Management:
Students learned about coping with stress and how to identify if they are stressed.
Sugary Drinks:
Students learned of the adverse effects that sugary drinks such as soda pop can have on a growing body. They learned how the sugars can destroy tooth enamel as well as soften bones.
Hand Hygiene:
The spreading of germs can be greatly decreased with proper hand washing techniques. Students learned proper washing technique, were instructed to wash often, and even told proper sneezing techniques to prevent the spread of germs (sneezing into a tissue or your elbow, in case you were interested).
Screen Time:
Students were instructed about the importance of play time (at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity a day) and to avoid more than 2 hours of screen time per day. It was also stressed that if you are going to be in front of a screen, to try to do some sort of physical activity while watching TV (stretching, walking around, etc.), especially during commercials.
