JC Students Compete in Conference Academic Bowl

After a three year absence from the Conference Academic Bowl Competition, Johnson Creek High School once again has an active team.

On Tuesday, March 10th, fourteen students traveled to Dodgeland High School to take written tests in the subject areas of Science (Physical Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry), Social Studies (U.S. History, World History, Geography, and Civics), and Literature (American Lit., British Lit, World Lit, and Potpourri), Following the written portion, students then competed in small teams within their subject area to complete an oral exam. The at-large team members then participated in a current events competition.

The students that participated certainly have a right to be proud. Not only were they specifically chosen by their teachers for the specific subject areas (students must qualify to be on the team), but we also placed 6th as a school out of 11 schools. We had a total of 412 points, missing 4th place by just 6 points. Markesan dominated the night, taking in 562 points.

Members that placed include Jay Pitzner (2nd place in geography) and Caitlin Purpi (3rd place in World Literature)

Getting one year under our belt, the team now has a better understanding of the strategy, even discussing on the bus ride home changes that could be made to gain more points. Students came up with ideas of moving certain people into different categories as well as study strategies. The team is certainly excited to participate again next year.
