Marla Mckenna, guest author, visited the elementary school on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28. She wrote “Mom’s Big Catch” one night when she could not sleep. It is a fun-loving story inspired by actual events that took place at Miller Park. Her new book, “Sadie’s Big Steal” should be released soon. She started each morning with the students she would work with that day. She read her book and discussed the process she had to go through to have it published. She later met with groups of students in their Literacy rotations. The students wrote stories under her leadership. Tuesday evening she offered a parent night for families to come together so the children could share what happened during the day and to hear about the importance of reading at home. This opportunity was made possible through a grant given by the Johnson Creek Education Foundation.
