Welcome Back - HS/MS Newsletter

Dear Johnson Creek Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2014-15 school year!  I hope you and your family had an enjoyable summer.  Our staff has been very busy preparing for the upcoming start of school.
As we dive into a new year, I wanted to take some time and remind parents how important they are to their child’s education.  Numerous studies over time have proven that parental involvement is a more significant factor in a child’s academic performance that the qualities of the school itself.  Parent engagement is not only important in their child’s elementary years but also crucial as the child enters middle school/high school age as well.  What can parents do?
  • Continually remind children the importance of education.
  • Attend school events.
  • Check homework and consistently monitor grades.
  • Communicate with teachers about their child’s progress.
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences with their child present.
  • Make sure there are open lines of communication between parent and child.
Furthermore, here are several opportunities for parents to get involved in our organizations that benefit the Johnson Creek student body and school community.
We are very excited about the start of the school year.  You are invited to come to our Open House on August 27th from 5:30-7:00pm.  Please meet in the gymnasium.
  • High School Presentation:  5:30-5:40pm
  • Middle School Presentation:  5:45-5:55pm
*The following paperwork will be available in the HS gym lobby from 5:30-6:00pm:
  • Student Photos/Photo Retake Order Forms
  • HS/MS Student Handbook
  • Blue Jay Open Campus Applications
  • Parking passes
  • Yearbooks
  • Athletic Passes
  • Bell Schedules
  • Student Schedules
  • Building Maps
School starts Tuesday, September 2nd at 7:45 AM and ends at 3:15 PM every day.  Please do not drop off students prior to 7:15AM.  There will be a warning bell at 7:40AM to remind students to make their way to their first hour class.
The school calendar will be available on the district website.  Please check for upcoming days off of school.
PBIS:  What is it?
Looking forward to this year, we are implementing a new behavior system, PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.  The purpose of this program will be to establish a positive culture in our school, as well as rewards positive behavior taking place.  Behavioral expectations will be laid out for students during the first week of school, along with hallway signage, reminding students of appropriate behaviors.  General information about the PBIS program can be found at:
